FALL 2026
MONDAY
CE 3 ON 3, SESSION 1, FALL 2026 (2018-2021)
For players born 2018–2021
Skill work or game reps? You need both.
Most training programs give you one or the other. Cutting Edge’s 3-on-3 gives you both — every session.
Skill work without game reps doesn’t stick. Game reps without coaching don’t improve. This program fixes both — 1/2 of the session includes high-intensity skill development, followed by the last 1/2 featuring live 3 on 3 play with the coaches on the ice giving immediate feedback.
That feedback loop is the point. Possessing the skill is only half the equation; knowing when and how to use it in a game is what actually translates. Each session blends the technical and the tactical — with a particular focus on skating, stickhandling, and shooting.
Led by: Cutting Edge instructors Trent Sheldon and Assistant Instructors Ryan Penny and Joseph Nikac.
Schedule
- When: Mondays, 5:30–6:30 PM
- Starts: Monday, September 14
- Ends: Monday, December 21
- Sessions: 15 sessions total,
Cost
$600 + HST, $40 + hst per session

TUESDAY
CE SKILLS #1 – LEARN TO PLAY HOCKEY, FALL 2026 (2019-2022)
For players born 2019–2022
The entry point to skill development at Cutting Edge. CE Skills #1 is built for young hockey players who need a real foundation — the kind that holds up as the game gets faster.
Led by Head Instructor Trent Sheldon, each session targets the core skills that everything else depends on: skating (balance, edge control, stride technique), stickhandling (clean on both forehand and backhand), passing, and shooting. Small-area games are built into every session so players don’t just drill the skills — they apply them in live situations, where it actually matters.
Train the technique. Then test it under pressure. That’s how a foundation sticks.
Led by: Head Instructor Trent Sheldon Format: 60 minutes on-ice (skill development + small-area games) Focus: Skating · Stickhandling · Passing · Shooting
Schedule
- When: Tuesdays, 5:30–6:30 PM
- Starts: Tuesday, September 8
- Ends: Tuesday, December 22
- Sessions: 16 total
Cost
$660 + HST, $40 + hst per class

FRIDAY
SKATE LIKE MCDAVID, SESSION 1, FALL 2026 (2017-2019), SESSION 2, FALL 2026 (2014-2018)
Connor McDavid is widely regarded as the fastest and best skater in NHL history. In a league full of elite skaters, he blows by the competition nightly — making outstanding skaters look average.
Watch him closely and you’ll see it: a completely unique skating style, vastly different from anyone before him. It’s not classic power skating, and it’s not what most coaches are still teaching.
The old way. For decades, skating instruction has focused on long forward strides and full extension — the “classic power skating” model. It’s outdated. It does not reflect how the NHL’s best skaters — McDavid, MacKinnon, Makar, Kaprizov, Barzal — actually move today.
The new way. McDavid has the highest crossover-to-stride ratio in NHL history (3:1). He uses linear crossovers to hit top speed in a blink and his edges to dart in every direction. McDavid, MacKinnon, and Makar regularly deploy punch turns, 10 & 2’s, outside edge rolls, and other evasive mechanics to shake checkers and create the time and space needed to make plays at full speed.
Kinesiologist and founder of Train 2.0 Jason Yee reverse-engineered these mechanics and named them downhill skating— because when they’re executed flawlessly, the player moves so fast it feels like they’re skating downhill.
The game is evolving. More players will skate like this every year. You should be one of them — because if you aren’t learning these mechanics, you’re falling behind the ones who are.
Cutting Edge led the shift. Under Head Instructor and Train 2.0 certified coach Trent Sheldon Cutting Edge recognized this change years ago and was the first to bring this instruction to the Halton Region. Skate Like McDavid has been running for 9 years — taught in a systematic, progressive format that builds the full toolkit:
corkscrew · anchor · soft drag · 10 & 2 · stutter · outside edge roll · shuffle · punch turn · linear crossover · forward stride
