Cutting Edge’s Learn to Skate programs have been tailored to meet the needs of children at all skill levels. Choose the class best suited to your child’s skills or age group.

Each participant must have skates, a CSA approved hockey helmet and full cage to participate in these programs.  No exceptions will be made.

Parents do not go on the ice.  Cutting Edge’s Learn to Skate Instructors will provide all on ice instruction.

Classes are 30 minutes in duration.

PRE-LEARN TO SKATE (2-5 year olds) sessions 1 and 2


This program is designed to meet the needs of children with little to no skating experience.  Basic skills such as standing, walking on ice and gliding will be emphasized in this program.  Games, music, toys and teaching aids will be incorporated.

Cutting Edge continues to offer the best value among all Learn to Skate programs in Halton.

Under the Direction of new Head Instructor Thalia Stybak, the Cutting Edge Learn to Skate program is conducted in a fun and friendly learning environment and based on the CanSkate program.  CanSkate is a nationally proven curriculum that helps each skater learn basic skills quickly and efficiently.  

Whether you’re just starting your skating journey or you have been on the ice for a couple of years and are eventually looking to transition into hockey or figure skating, our Learn to Skate program will help each skater improve their balance, edge control and agility skills in a progressive system.

About our Head Instructor

A graduate of McMaster University, Thalia Stybak was an assistant Learn to Skate instructor for 3 years at Cutting Edge under former Learn to Skate Head Instructor Samantha White.

Known for her calm, friendly and patient teaching style Thalia’s experience as a figure skater and Learn to Skate instructor make her a valuable addition to the Cutting Edge team.

 Date:  Sunday, May 5 to Sunday, June 23

(7 week session, no classes on May 19)

Fee:  $140 + HST

Session 1: 10-10:30 am

Session 2: 10:30-11 am
